| Reverse description | Full-colour appliqué depicting a large multi-masted sailing ship rendered in a painterly style, shown underway with full sails set and several flags, including what appear to be red cross ensigns, flying from the masts. The vessel is portrayed against a blue sky with white clouds, with a green waterline or ground line visible at the base of the composition. The image fills the entire coin field to the reeded rim, with no legend or inscription present. |

| Additional information |
Tumbatu is a small island off the northwest coast of Zanzibar whose inhabitants — the Watumbatu — maintain a reputation for fierce insularity; historically they refused to allow strangers to spend the night on the island. Tanzania has issued a series of low-denomination fantasy-adjacent pieces under its authority that circulate more in collector channels than in any domestic economy, and this is one of them.
