Port-Daniel is a small municipality on the south shore of the Gaspé Peninsula, and this piece is one of hundreds of locally issued "bucks" that proliferated across Quebec in the early 2000s as tourism offices experimented with scrip currency redeemable at participating merchants. The CLD Rocher-Percé — a regional economic development council — administered the program, which was as much a promotional device as a functional currency.
Quebec's municipal scrip boom was short-lived; most programs folded within a few years as merchant participation dwindled.
