Issued to mark the 2004 wedding of Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Sultan's eldest son and heir apparent, to Sarah Salleh — a commoner whose selection as bride was itself a significant departure from the dynastic marriage conventions typical of the Brunei royal house. The Brunei Currency and Monetary Board produced this in copper-nickel rather than silver despite the 31-gram format, a cost-conscious choice that kept the piece accessible as a commemorative without the bullion premium.
