The Blue Flag Iris (*Iris versicolor*) was adopted as Québec's floral emblem in 1999, chosen partly because it grows wild across the province and had long been associated with French heraldic tradition through its resemblance to the fleur-de-lis — a point the Québec National Assembly found politically convenient.
