Niue has operated as a licensing vehicle for commemorative coinage since the 1990s, issuing coins under New Zealand monetary authority while retaining the right to generate revenue through numismatic programs. The Harry Potter series is one of several major franchise agreements the island has pursued, alongside Disney and Star Wars releases, none of which bear any meaningful connection to Niue itself.
