Obverse description The obverse is an intaglio-printed composition headed by the arched legend COMMERCIAL BANK OF CANADA and the subordinate inscriptions INCORPORATED BY ACT OF PARLIAMENT and CAPITAL $1,000,000, with the central text WILL PAY ON DEMAND / THREE DOLLARS and the payable location COLLINGWOOD with manuscript date 1861. To the left, a rural agricultural vignette with figures in a wooded landscape occupies the principal pictorial field, while to the right a finely engraved bull's-head vignette provides a secondary motif. Ornate numeral 3 panels anchor each lower corner, with the printer's imprint of Lawson Bank Note Company in the lower margin.
