Obverse description The obverse is dominated by a central allegorical vignette of a reclining female figure surrounded by cherubs and classical figures in an engraved tableau. To the left, a standing female allegorical figure is flanked by a numeral 3 counter, while to the right a further vignette with a scroll bears the denomination numeral. The bank title FARMER'S JOINT STOCK BANK is inscribed in bold letterpress across the centre, with the written promise to pay Three Dollars at their Office in Toronto dated February 1849, and manuscript signatures of the Manager and President appear at the lower margin.

Reverse description The reverse is largely plain, printed on aged cream paper with a red overprint reading THREE in large serif capitals centred on the note, applied in a block letterpress style.
