The 3 Chervontsa denomination was peculiar even within Soviet currency logic — the chervonets system, introduced in 1922 to stabilize post-civil-war finances with a nominally gold-backed unit, produced denominations that had no real parallel in conventional banking practice. A three-unit note implies a divisional need that the one and five alone could not satisfy, suggesting heavy reliance on small commercial transactions during the First Five-Year Plan period.

Pick 201 is the only 3 Chervontsa type issued; the denomination was abandoned entirely with the 1937 currency reform, which also retired the chervonets name in favor of the plain "ruble" designation.
