| Obverse description | Central square hole (穿) surrounded by four Chinese seal-script (篆書) ideograms arranged in cruciform reading order — top, right, bottom, left — forming the reign-title legend 政和通寶 (Zhenghe Tongbao). The characters are boldly cast in relief against a flat inner field, with a raised inner rim enclosing the legend and a broad outer rim framing the coin. The seal-script style is characterized by rounded, archaic strokes typical of Northern Song imperial epigraphy, executed with a high degree of calligraphic refinement consistent with the personal brushwork attributed to Emperor Huizong's court. |
