Obverse description Cast iron cash coin of standard round form with a central square perforation, struck during the Shaoxi reign era (1190–1194) of Emperor Guangzong of the Southern Song Dynasty. The four-character reign title inscription 紹熙元寶 (Shaoxi Yuanbao) is disposed in seal script (zhuanshu) in the four cardinal positions around the central square hole, reading top-bottom-right-left in the customary rotational order. Each character occupies a distinct quadrant of the inner field, separated by the void of the central perforation. The coin is bounded by a raised inner rim framing the square hole and a plain outer rim, both clearly defined despite heavy surface corrosion and iron oxidation patina characteristic of Southern Song iron coinage.
