| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by a raised inner rim, with four Chinese ideograms arranged in the four cardinal positions around the central hole, reading clockwise from the top in standard Regular script (Kaishu): 嘉 (top), 泰 (right), 通 (bottom), 寶 (left), forming the reign-title inscription 'Jiatai Tongbao'. The characters are boldly cast in relief against a flat field, with a raised outer rim encircling the entire face. The overall style is typical of Southern Song dynasty cash coinage, displaying well-defined strokes and competent calligraphic execution. |
