| Obverse description | Rectangular countermark applied to a cut segment of a Mexico City mint 8 Reales host coin, retaining remnants of the original Spanish colonial design in the field. The countermark bears the colonial authority initials 'E & D' arranged in the upper portion, denoting Essequibo and Demerara, with the denomination '3.BTS' inscribed below within a dotted border. The piece is irregular in shape due to being cut from the host coin, and the serrated edge with 19 notches is visible around the perimeter. The legends are incuse-struck in Latin script within the rectangular punch, presenting a bold and legible impression despite the primitive emergency nature of the issue. |
