| Obverse description | Within a rope border, the heraldic bear of St. Gallen stands rampant to the left, its forepaws raised, serving as the civic arms of the issuing city. The date appears in the exergue below a horizontal line, flanked by small stars. The encircling Latin legend reads MO:NO:CIV:SANGALLENSIS, identifying this as the new coinage of the city of St. Gallen. The design is struck on a square klippe flan with a beaded outer border along all four edges. |

| Reverse description | Within a rope border, a displayed imperial double-headed eagle fills the central field, with both heads shown in profile facing outward and wings spread. The numeral 3, denoting the denomination in Batzen, appears in the exergue below a horizontal line, flanked by small rosettes. The surrounding Latin legend VNI*SOLI*DEO*GLORIA, meaning 'Glory to God alone,' encircles the design in a devotional Protestant motto characteristic of Swiss Reformed coinage of the period. The reverse is likewise struck on the square klippe flan with a beaded outer border. |
