| Obverse description | Uniface Notgeld note printed in black letterpress on plain paper within a double-rule rectangular border. The denomination '3 Millionen 3' is set in large Gothic blackletter numerals and script across the upper portion, flanked by the figure '3' in each upper corner. Two printed circular vignettes at lower left and lower right each bear the city coat of arms of Bütow. The central text block, in Gothic script, gives the payment obligation and issuer details, dated 31. August 1923, with the issuer name 'STADTBANK BÜTOW' in Roman capitals below. Two large violet circular cancellation stamps reading 'STÄDTISCHE SPARKASSE BÜTOW' with a church vignette are applied at left and right, and a diagonal violet 'Entwertet' (cancelled) overprint crosses the centre of the note. |

Bütow's municipal bank joined the flood of German emergency currency issuers in 1923 at the height of the hyperinflation, when local authorities were legally permitted — then essentially compelled — to print their own notgeld to meet payroll and basic commerce as Reichsbank supply lagged hopelessly behind the collapsing currency. The three-million-mark denomination sounds staggering but was, by mid-1923, barely enough for a loaf of bread in many regions.
Bütow itself is now Bytów, Poland, transferred after 1945. Notes from this issuer are moderately scarce simply because the town was small and total print runs were limited.
