Moringen is a small town in Lower Saxony — today best known as the site of an early Nazi concentration camp — but in August 1923 it was simply one of hundreds of German municipalities scrambling to print emergency money fast enough to keep pace with hyperinflation. The Sparkasse der Stadt Moringen, a local savings institution with no printing infrastructure of its own, almost certainly produced this Notgeld on whatever commercial press was locally available, which accounts for the rough typographic execution common to small-town issues at this denomination level.
By the time 3,000,000 Mark notes were circulating, the Reichsbank's own currency was losing value within hours of issue. This note's useful life was likely measured in days.
