Obverse description Central field displays the quartered provincial arms of Groningen and the Ommelanden within a heraldic shield, featuring an eagle in the first and fourth quarters and a bend charged with hearts in the second and third quarters. The shield is surmounted by an ornate crown. The denomination numeral '28' appears to the left of the shield and 'ST' to the right, flanking the arms. A circular legend in Latin runs along the outer border, separated by pellets, with a beaded inner border encircling the design.
