| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a five-line Latin inscription enclosed within a wreath of laurel branches tied at top and bottom, the whole contained within a raised circular border. The legend reads NVMMVS · OBSES · VRB · LVGDVN · SVB · GVB · ILL · PRIN / AVRA · CVS, identifying this as a siege coin of the City of Leiden issued under the governance of the illustrious Prince of Orange. The lettering is rendered in capital Roman characters impressed into the cardboard substrate. The wreath serves as the sole decorative element, framing the inscription in a restrained but formal composition characteristic of emergency siege coinage. |
