| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a five-line Latin inscription enclosed within a wreath of laurel branches tied at top and bottom, the whole contained within a raised circular border. The legend reads NVMMVS · OBSES · VRB · LVGDVN · SVB · GVB · ILL · PRIN / AVRA · CVS, identifying this as a siege coin of the City of Leiden issued under the governance of the illustrious Prince of Orange. The lettering is rendered in capital Roman characters impressed into the cardboard substrate. The wreath serves as the sole decorative element, framing the inscription in a restrained but formal composition characteristic of emergency siege coinage. |

| Reverse description | A crowned rampant lion facing left dominates the central field, holding in its dexter forepaw a sword erect and in its sinister forepaw a shield bearing the coat of arms of Leiden. The design is executed in the heraldic tradition of the Low Countries, with the lion rendered in bold relief appropriate to the impressed cardboard medium. A circular Latin legend surrounds the device, dated 1574, asserting the defiant motto of the besieged city. The overall composition reflects the urgency and improvised nature of this wartime emergency issue. |
