| Reverse description | The full Portuguese royal coat of arms occupies the centre of the field, comprising the traditional escutcheon charged with five inescutcheons in cross each bearing five bezants, bordered by a castle-strewn bordure, and set within an ornate Baroque cartouche. The shield is surmounted by the open royal crown and draped on either side by elaborately rendered ermine-lined mantling tied with tasselled cords. The denomination 2500 REIS is inscribed in the lower field along the inner edge of the beaded border. |
