Reverse description A draped bust of Olaudah Equiano, the renowned Igbo-born abolitionist and writer (c. 1745–1797), faces front in a naturalistic portrait style, wearing an 18th-century ruffled cravat and coat. The commemorative legend Commémoration de l'abolition de l'esclavage curves along the upper periphery, with the dates 1745-1797 inscribed vertically to the left of the bust and the name Olaudah Equiano descending vertically along the right side of the field. The denomination 2500 francs is inscribed along the lower rim, with the designer's initials JL appearing in the lower field.
