Obverse description The obverse bears the fourth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susan Taylor, depicting the monarch in right-facing portrait at approximately 77 years of age, bareheaded, wearing a necklace and drop earrings. The legend surrounding the effigy reads '2500 DOLLARS • CANADA • ELIZABETH II • 2009 • VANCOUVER 2010' in raised Latin lettering. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic logo appears to the left of the portrait in the field. The design is executed in ultra-high relief, befitting this prestigious one-kilogram gold issue.
