Additional information

Somalia's numismatic output in the 2000s leaned heavily on licensed commemorative programs with no domestic connection to the subject matter — Egypt's Tutankhamun among them. These issues were produced for the collector market, almost certainly by a European contract mint, and never saw meaningful circulation in Mogadishu or anywhere else. Horus the Elder, distinct from the more commonly depicted Horus the Child, was associated with the sky and kingship in a form predating the Osiris myth cycle by centuries.
