| Reverse description | The central field of the copper-nickel middle ring features a vivid multicolored depiction of an ancient Greek trireme under oar, rendered in polychrome enamel against a stylized golden sun disc set above blue seas. Rows of oarsmen are visible along the vessel's hull, and the characteristic outrigger structure of the trireme is faithfully rendered. The inscription GREEK TRIREME arcs across the upper portion of the inner field, while 500 BC appears in the lower exergue of the inner disc. The legend A HISTORY OF WORLD SHIPPING curves along the upper periphery of the brass outer ring, with the date 1998 inscribed at the base, all framed by a beaded border. |
