| Additional information |
Issued three years before the Atlanta Games, this piece is part of a wave of Olympic silver struck by small-island nations throughout the early 1990s — most with no meaningful Olympic history of their own. The Maldives sent its first Olympic delegation to the 1988 Seoul Games, making the 1996 Atlanta cycle only their third participation.
KM#85 was produced for the collector market and almost certainly saw no domestic circulation.
