Additional information

The Nadezhda completed Russia's first circumnavigation of the globe between 1803 and 1806, commanded by Ivan Fyodorovich Krusenstern — the mission partly funded by the Russian-American Company to supply its Alaskan settlements. The voyage produced the first systematic Russian oceanographic data from the Pacific and established Krusenstern's reputation as the father of Russian oceanography.

The coin belongs to a series commemorating historic Russian sailing vessels. At 18.5 mm with a 32 g bimetallic construction, the diameter-to-weight ratio is unusually dense for the format — a consequence of the brass ring adding significant mass to a relatively small flan.
