| Obverse description | Printed in green on white paper, the obverse carries a rectangular guilloche border framing the obligation text of the Kuban Territorial Government. The denomination '250 руб.' is set in large bold type at centre, with the written-out amount 'ДВЕСТИ ПЯТЬДЕСЯТ РУБЛЕЙ' below it, and the issue date 'Выпущено 1-го Марта 1920 г.' beneath. The upper field bears the series designation 'Серія II.' at left and 'Руб. 250' at right, with the issuer's name 'Кубанскаго Краевого Правительства' in bold lettering, followed by the obligation text, anti-counterfeiting notice, and facsimile signatures of the Chairman and Members of the Government. |

The Kuban Territorial Government was one of several anti-Bolshevik regional administrations that scrambled to issue their own currency during the chaos of 1918, when Volunteer Army operations in the northern Caucasus made stable central-bank supply lines impossible. The Kuban Cossack leadership in Ekaterinodar needed money fast, and local printing capacity was limited — the notes of this period show it.
P#S488 belongs to a series that circulated alongside Volunteer Army Don issues and Denikin's own scrip, creating a patchwork of semi-convertible obligations that traders and soldiers alike accepted grudgingly. Kuban notes were formally demonetized after the White defeat in the region by early 1920.
