Goznak's involvement in Yemeni currency printing reflects a long-standing commercial relationship between Russia and the Republic of Yemen — one rooted partly in Soviet-era ties with the former People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in the south. After unification in 1990, the Central Bank of Yemen continued sourcing production from multiple international printers, and Goznak secured a share of that work.

Pick 35 is a mid-series denomination, issued well before the civil conflict that effectively split the central bank's functions after 2015, when rival governments in Sana'a and Aden each began asserting monetary authority — making pre-conflict Goznak-printed notes the last undisputed unified issues.
