Obverse description Countermark applied to the host coin's obverse, consisting of the crowned '2SO' punch — a stylised numeral 2 and the letters SO beneath a royal crown — struck into the field to revalue the underlying hammered silver coin to 250 Réis. The host coin displays a Portuguese cross of five escutcheons in the central field, typical of the 200 Réis coinage of João IV or Afonso VI, with a beaded inner border and partial peripheral legend visible around the irregular flan.
