| Reverse description | Two nyala antelopes — a large horned male and a smaller female — are depicted walking in profile to the left across a naturalistic ground line with sparse vegetation, rendered in fine relief by engraver Norman Sillman. The male displays characteristic spiralling horns and shaggy flank markings typical of the species. The date 1978 appears in the upper field above the animals, while the denomination 250 KWACHA is inscribed in two lines across the lower field in bold serif lettering.
