The 250 Gourdes denomination was introduced during a period when the Duvalier government — Jean-Claude by this point — was attempting to project economic stability through ceremonial high-value notes that saw almost no ordinary commercial use. American Bank Note Company had printed Haitian currency for decades by this point, a relationship that survived both Duvaliers despite the diplomatic friction Haiti generated internationally.
Worth noting: P#237 examples frequently show uneven ink saturation in the intaglio work, a known characteristic of the early pressings from this series rather than a sign of forgery or mishandling.
