| Additional information |
Part of a four-coin series issued by Djibouti commemorating Alexandre Dumas's 1844 novel, this piece depicts Porthos — the most physically imposing of the three musketeers and, in Dumas's characterization, the vainest. Djibouti's central bank has made a habit of issuing shaped silver collector coins with literary and cultural themes, a revenue strategy common among small-nation mints with negligible domestic numismatic demand. The rectangular format is the tell: 40 x 25 mm places it firmly in the shaped-coin collector market dominated by European distributors.
