Obverse description In the upper left field, the national arms of Djibouti — a vertical spear flanked by a Somali dagger and a laurel branch, surmounted by a hand and enclosed within a wreath — are displayed in high relief. The denomination '250 FRANCS' appears in the lower left field. A cutout silhouette of a walking lion occupies the lower right portion of the design, creating a distinctive negative-space effect. The curved legend 'REPUBLIQUE DE DJIBOUTI' arcs across the upper rim. The date '2018' is inscribed in the lower exergue.

Additional information

Djibouti's national currency has been pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate since 1973 — an arrangement that has never changed — which makes a silver bullion issue denominated in francs something of an anomaly: a collector product dressed in the clothing of a currency that functionally shadows the dollar. KM#63 is essentially a modern bullion piece with a nominal face value carrying no real monetary weight.
