Obverse description The obverse features the Singapore state coat of arms at centre, comprising a shield bearing a crescent moon and five stars, supported by a lion rampant to the left and a tiger rampant to the right, resting on a scroll inscribed with the national motto MAJULAH SINGAPURA in Latin script. The country name appears in three languages arranged around the periphery: SINGAPURA arching across the upper field in Latin script, சிங்கப்பூர் in Tamil script to the left, and 新加坡 in Chinese characters to the right. The date 1996 and the English legend SINGAPORE are inscribed in the lower field, the latter arching along the rim.
