Obverse description The national emblem of Singapore occupies the centre of the obverse, depicting a lion and a tiger flanking a shield, surmounted by a crescent moon and five stars, with a legend inscribed in four languages — English, Tamil, Chinese, and Malay — arranged around the periphery of the field. The date 2003 appears beneath the emblem in the lower exergue. The multilingual inscription reads 'SINGAPORE', 'SINGAPURA', the Tamil rendering 'சிங்கப்பூர்', and the Chinese characters '新加坡', reflecting Singapore's multicultural identity.
