Additional information

Struck to mark Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Jamaica in 1983, this issue appeared during a period of acute economic strain for the island — the Jamaican dollar had been heavily devalued the previous year under IMF restructuring, making a domestic gold commemorative something of an incongruity. Production numbers were small, intended for collectors and diplomatic gift use rather than any meaningful circulation.

KM#124 is the sole gold issue in a small group of commemoratives tied to the visit, the others struck in silver.
