Additional information

Issued under the RCM's ongoing push into ultra-high-relief collector gold, this piece belongs to a series that has drawn consistent criticism from purists for prioritizing surface drama over numismatic restraint. The water lily design was executed by Canadian artist Ago Aarand, whose botanical work for the Mint spans several issues in this period.

The .9999 fineness — four nines — was a deliberate commercial positioning against the Royal Mint and Perth Mint in the collector bullion space. Canada had been producing four-nines gold since the Maple Leaf program of 1979, longer than most competitors.
