Obverse description The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right, diademed and draped, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, set within a raised inner circle. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the upper border, with fleur-de-lis ornaments separating the letters, while 'NIUE ISLAND' runs along the lower border. To the left of the portrait, the fineness 'Au 999.9' is inscribed in the field, and '139.5 g' appears to the right, denoting the coin's gold purity and weight. The lower portion of the obverse incorporates two overlapping circular cartouches: the left bearing the denomination '250' with the legend 'TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS' encircling it, and the right displaying a crowned Royal cypher 'E' within an ornate wreath. The date '2016' is inscribed at the base, with the Czech Mint's mintmaster mark visible below the cartouches.
