| Reverse description | Central device features a detailed map of the Indonesian archipelago — Nusantara — depicted in relief, stretching across the field from Sumatra in the west to Papua in the east, with major islands rendered distinctly. The legend NUSANTARA curves along the upper periphery, the commemorative dates 1945-1990 are inscribed below the map in the centre, and the denomination 250000 RUPIAH arcs along the lower periphery, all in Latin characters. |

Issued to mark the 45th anniversary of Indonesian independence, this coin is part of a broader commemorative program Bank Indonesia ran through the late 1980s and early 1990s — a period when the Suharto government used prestige gold issues as instruments of national projection. The .958 fineness is notably high for a modern commemorative, closer to traditional 23-karat goldsmithing standards than the .900 or .916 more commonly adopted by central banks issuing collector coinage.
Mintages for the series were tightly controlled and distributed primarily through the banking system rather than conventional numismatic channels, limiting secondary market liquidity for decades after issue.
