The Chinese Unicorn series launched in 1994 as a direct competitor to established bullion programs from the U.S. and Canada, targeting the international collector market rather than domestic circulation. These bimetallic pieces were produced in limited quantities and never intended for everyday use — the 25 Yuan face value was nominal from the outset.
The 1995 issue is the second year of the series, and early-year examples are generally harder to source in original mint packaging, as Chinese export handling at the time was inconsistent.
