| Obverse description | A detailed architectural rendering of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven (天坛) occupies the central field, depicted in a three-quarter elevated perspective with its characteristic triple-tiered circular roof and surrounding marble terrace. The circular Chinese legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs across the upper periphery of the coin. The date 1986 is inscribed in the lower exergue beneath the building. The design is executed in high relief with finely detailed engraving against a polished field. |

| Reverse description | A naturalistic giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is depicted in a seated, forward-facing pose, occupying the central field and surrounded by stylized bamboo stalks and foliage to both sides. The upper left legend reads 含纯金1/4盎司 (contains 1/4 troy ounce of pure gold) and the purity inscription 成色.999 appears in the upper right. The denomination 25元 is inscribed in the lower exergue. A small mint mark 'P' denoting the Shenyang Mint appears at the lower right of the central design. The reverse displays a finely milled border consistent with the reeded edge. |
