The Security Printing Corporation (Bangladesh) Ltd. was established in 1988, reducing the country's longstanding dependence on foreign printers for currency and security documents — a practical necessity for a nation that had been printing notes abroad since independence in 1971. This commemorative issue marks the corporation's twenty-fifth year of domestic production, making the note unusual in that the printer and the occasion being commemorated are one and the same.

With just over 12 million printed, the run is modest but not scarce by commemorative standards. Notably issued at face value as legal tender, not as a collector-only release.
