Additional information

Somalia has issued coins under its name for decades despite having no functioning central monetary authority for much of that period — the legal framework exploited by a handful of private minting agencies, primarily based in Europe, to produce collectible pieces carrying Somali authorization. This 25 Shillings issue is one of those products, bearing no relationship to circulating Somali currency.

Gold-plated copper-nickel at 20 grams is a format favored by secondary market mints targeting novelty collectors. The Somali shilling itself has been effectively replaced in the north by the Somaliland shilling, and in much of the south by the US dollar.
