Somalia's post-civil war coinage of the early 2000s occupies a strange administrative vacuum — the Transitional National Government, formed in 2000, had nominal authority but no functioning central bank and no credible monetary infrastructure. These collector-targeted issues were authorized and contracted through intermediaries, effectively souvenir currency produced for the international numismatic market rather than domestic circulation. They never meaningfully entered Somali commerce.
