Somalia's post-civil war administrations issued a flood of novelty and commemorative pieces in the early 2000s with no connection to actual Somali monetary policy — currency production had become a revenue exercise for the Transitional National Government, licensing foreign mints to strike collectibles bearing the Somali name.
