Reverse description A rearing unicorn, depicted in full polychrome color, occupies the central and dominant portion of the reverse field, shown with a spiraled horn, white coat, and forelegs raised, standing upon a green grassy foreground. A stylized golden landscape with clouds and the suggestion of a distant castle or rocky formation appears in the background, rendered in relief against the gold-plated surface. The legend MYTHICAL CREATURES is inscribed in bold raised lettering across the upper portion of the rectangular flan, with decorative flourishes flanking the text.

Additional information

Somalia's numismatic output since the early 2000s has been almost entirely the work of foreign licensing arrangements — European distributors contract designs, source blanks, and handle distribution, with the Somali government providing little beyond nominal issuing authority in exchange for a fee. This coin exists for that reason alone. The unicorn series, like most Somali collector issues of this period, was produced for the European and Asian novelty market and almost certainly never entered circulation in Somalia.
