Additional information

Mauritius marked Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee as one of the last British Indian Ocean territories to do so, issuing both a standard cupro-nickel circulation strike and this .925 silver proof variant simultaneously in 1977. The split issue was a deliberate commercial decision — the proof reserved for collectors and the overseas presentation market rather than domestic circulation, which explains why the cupro-nickel KM#43 turns up worn in Mauritian trade while this variant surfaces almost exclusively in original packaging.
