| Reverse description | The reverse presents a richly colorized composition commemorating the Italian poet Dante Alighieri (1265–1321). A sculpted, uncolored effigy of Dante in his characteristic hooded robe and laurel-draped cape dominates the right-center of the field, depicted in contemplative three-quarter profile with his right hand raised to his chin. Against a vivid blue background, gilded figures of angels in flight occupy the upper left quadrant, evoking scenes from the Paradiso, while figures aboard a vessel at center-left allude to episodes from the Inferno or Purgatorio. The lower left section is rendered in deep red, depicting additional narrative scenes from the Divine Comedy in relief. To the right of Dante's effigy, a rendered cityscape of Florence — including its iconic cathedral dome — appears in the lower right field, with the dates 1265 and 1321 inscribed below. The legend ДАНТЕ АЛИГЬЕРИ (Dante Alighieri) is inscribed in Cyrillic along the upper right arc of the coin. |
