The Bukhara Soviet People's Republic existed for barely three years — proclaimed in September 1920 after the Red Army destroyed the Emirate of Bukhara, it was absorbed into the Soviet system by 1924 when the USSR's national delimitation carved the region into the Uzbek and Turkmen SSRs. This note belongs to that brief transitional period when the new state was simultaneously constructing Soviet institutions and managing a local economy still deeply rooted in bazaar trade and traditional exchange.
The 1922 emission came during acute monetary instability, with Bukharan sovznaks competing poorly against Russian RSFSR notes and assorted regional currency. Survival rates for this series are uneven — paper quality was poor and the notes circulated hard in a semi-arid climate that accelerated deterioration.
