The Archangel Branch of the State Bank issued this note in 1918 under Bolshevik administration — but the city would fall to Allied-backed anti-Bolshevik forces in August of that year, making the political shelf-life of "Red regime" Archangel issues remarkably short. Notes produced before the Allied intervention were almost immediately rendered ideologically unwelcome, and many were withdrawn or destroyed once the Provisional Government of the Northern Region took control.
The S-prefix placement in Pick confirms its classification as a Russian Civil War local issue rather than a central emission. Survivors from the Red period of Archangel's 1918 banking activity are considerably scarcer than the subsequent White-administered issues from the same branch.
