Obverse description The State Emblem of the USSR — a hammer and sickle superimposed on a globe, surrounded by wheat sheaves tied with a ribbon and surmounted by a five-pointed star — occupies the upper field in high relief. Below the emblem, the Cyrillic legend 'СССР' (USSR) is inscribed in large characters across the middle field. The denomination '25 РУБЛЕЙ' (25 Roubles) appears in two lines in the lower central field, with the date '1988' at the bottom. Purity and weight marks 'Pd 999' and '31,1' appear to the left, and the Leningrad Mint monogram 'ЛМД' to the right, both flanking the denomination. The coin was struck to proof standard with a mirror field and frosted devices.
