The Brunei Currency Board maintained a currency interchangeability agreement with Singapore from 1967, meaning Brunei dollars were — and remain — accepted at par in Singapore and vice versa. This arrangement gave Brunei notes a dual practical life rarely seen in small-nation issues, with genuine cross-border circulation rather than purely domestic use.
The 25 Ringgit denomination is an odd one by regional standards, introduced to mark the Sultan's Silver Jubilee.
